  1. Hi Jamie,

Thanks so much for what must have amounted to a monumental task regarding the installation of ML on a early MP. Kudos!

That being said, I have a copy of ML Developers Edition 1, but it appears to have been modified in that it does not contain the folder “Shared Support”. May I assume that I can only use a fresh copy of the original Developers release. Please advise.

Again, thanks for all your efforts and keep up the outstanding works.

      • i followed all your steps on the GM release of ML and its stopping at “The additional components needed to install OS X can’t be found” any idea’s ??? i double checked all the steps and i followed your directions exactly. im doing this on a Mac Pro 1.1

  2. Jamie,
thanks for your description “mountain lion on mac pro 1.1″

why does apple make this unnecessary work to customers ? :)

I also had a little work with my evga nvidia gtx 580 on my mac pro 1.1.

  3. Hey Jamie,

I’m purchasing a Mac Pro 1,1 tomorrow with two dual core 2.66GHz processors and two Nvidia 7300 GT cards. I saw your tutorial on upgrading this machine to Mountain Lion and it looks great BUT, in your experience does your system run as quickly or efficiently? I kind of scanned over it but I wonder, with the adjustments made to install the OS, will I lose any performance and will it run correctly like on any other machine?

    Thanks,

  4. Hi Jamie
I followed with interest your first tutorial on installing Mountain Lion onto a Mac Pro 1,1; successfully getting it to run on my machine.
I have looked at your blog recently but i do not see any further updates.
Have you tried any further releases of Mountain Lion and do they still work on your Mac Pro 1,1? I would particularly interested to see whether you have got the GM release to run.
Thanks for all your hard work and effort. If need be you can contact me direct via email.

  5. I have a set of instructions for installing Mountain Lion on unsupported macs on my blog that work with later developer previews and the released version. I used some of your tecniques in my method so thanks for that. Would you like to link to my page. Thanks.

  6. Jamie:

I’m about to submit a post to Apple’s Discussions website complaining about Mountain Lion’s disjuncture with many early Intel Macs. I might also provide a copy to a NY Times writer, David Pogue, to prompt his interest in the the subject but with firm instructions not to re-print (not that he would). Much of my argument is based upon your having already gotten ML to run on a MacPro1,1 (same as my machine). I refer to your blog’s URL and include the graphic that shows OS 8 running on your Mac Pro.

Your name is all over these items so I thought I should ask whether you have any strong objections to my using them this way?

Would appreciate a prompt email reply. Post is already written.

    TIA

  7. Hi Jamie,

I am trying to install ML on an early 2008 Mac Pro and have followed your instructions. I have created the USB stick using the InstallESDedited.dmg file and System Preferences is showing it as a startup disk, but when I try and boot from it, I get the no entry sign before the Mac switches back to the hard disk and boots.

    Any ideas?

    Regards

    Brent
